ST. ANDREA Egri Bikavér Superior 'Merengő' 2022

ST. ANDREA Egri Bikavér Superior 'Merengő' 2022

Merengő is the flagship red wine of the St. Andrea Winery, and this award-winning Egri Bikavér Superior is a powerful vintage made from their best barrels.

It has a deep ruby colour, and its attractive, rich aroma features blackcurrant, blackberry, and forest berries, complemented by hints of forest soil and floral notes. This wine is mouth-filling, with well-integrated tannins and acidity, leading to a long finish characterised by a compelling volcanic and chalky minerality.

Food Pairing

The red wine’s intense character pairs well with meaty dishes, such as traditional Hunter's stew. Additionally, its fruity palate complements noodles and Gouda-style semi-hard cheeses like a caraway cheese.

Serving temperature: 15-17°C

Grape varieties: Kékfrankos (Blaufränkisch), Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir & Kadarka

Soil type: Brown forest soil with clay, rhyolite tuff in the deep layers

Fermentation: Spontaneous in open wooden vats and stainless steel

Alcohol content: 14.5%

Bottle size: 0.75l

Awards: Decanter World Wine Awards 2024 - Bronze Medal
